Color: Dark Brown

This pochette features a body constructed using a wave-shaped joining technique known as nami-hagi. The undulating seams create a striking visual impression and contribute to a firm, elegant silhouette.

The term hagi appears in terms used for leatherworking techniques, like hagi “接ぎ” (joining), hagiawase “はぎ合わせ” (piecing together), or tsugihagi “つぎはぎ” (patchwork).

While nami-hagi isn’t an official name for a technique, it’s used here to describe the unique method applied, one whose formal name is unknown. It appears similar to techniques used in crafting sheaths for traditional Finnish Puukko knives, and the creator welcomes insights from anyone familiar with this style.

Care Instructions

My products are crafted using vegetable-tanned oil leather, which develops a rich patina over time. Due to the natural characteristics of genuine leather, you may notice slight scars or color variations—these are part of the leather’s unique charm and not defects.

Finish & Handling

  • The leather used in oceano products are made of oil-rich leathers, so no oil maintenance is required. Use a cloth to dust the entire area and a brush to dust the seams and folds. After that, check for scratches, abrasions, corners and other areas that are prone to dryness. If necessary, lightly apply leather oil (I recommend a plant-based oil such as Lanaper leather treatment).
  • Please note that excessive application of oil can also cause color transfer, loss of shape, and clouding of expression. Just hold it in your hand and use it every day to enjoy the ever-changing expression.

Precautions for Exposure to Water

  • If the leather gets wet, it can cause it to lose its shape and transfer color. Wipe the water on the surface with a cloth, then dry in the shade in a well-ventilated place, and apply a thin layer of oil to the entire area after drying and resume use.
  • Because tannin-tanned leather is elastic, it will dry while maintaining its shape when wet. When drying in the shade, dry it in its clean shape as much as possible. In the case of a bag, it is also effective to pack a rolled towel or newspaper to preserve its shape and structure.
  • Leather with a dye finish is especially prone to fading when wet. If it gets wet, be careful not to transfer the color and avoid rubbing it on your clothes.
