Experience the intersection of Tokyo’s legendary edo-kiriko glass, the poetic beauty of Japan’s seasons, and the iconic motifs of traditional hanafuda playing cards. This exquisite set of three edo-kiriko glass sake cups brings to life the Inoshikacho —the legendary trio of the Boar, the Deer, and the Butterfly from hanafuda cards.
Three Tales of Tradition and Technique
Each cup is meticulously hand-engraved using a sophisticated sandblasting technique, creating a soft, frosted texture with stunning depth.
- Butterfly & Peony (Chou ni Botan): The essence of transformation and elegance, dancing through a whirlwind of falling cherry blossoms. Each petal is carved layer by layer to create a lifelike, blossoming depth. This piece captures a moment of grace as a butterfly flutters around the "King of Flowers," adding an air of elegance to your sake ritual.
- Deer & Autumn Leaves (Momiji ni Shika): A symbol of longevity and grace, standing amidst the deep reds of maple leaves. Using a unique "shading" technique, Saori leaves a whisper of red glass to create a breathtaking gradation that mirrors the changing leaves.
- Boar & Bush Clover (Hagi ni Inoshishi): Representing audacious courage and vitality, set against a backdrop of flowing autumn clover. The boar is rendered with a gentle three-dimensionality, contrasted by the delicate swaying of bush clover in the autumn wind.
A view from above: The intricate patterns extend to the bottom of the glass. When you peek inside, the translucent carvings play with the light, making every sip a visual delight.
The Art of Edo Cased Glass
These cups are made using the Kise-garasu (Cased Glass) method —a rare technique where a layer of colored glass is fused over clear glass. Unlike painted or printed glassware, the designs are permanently carved into the glass itself. They will never fade or peel, allowing you to cherish the vibrant colors for a lifetime. Every cup is finished with a meticulous hand-polishing process, ensuring a smooth, premium feel that fits perfectly in your hand.
The Perfect Gift for Special Moments
Presented in a sophisticated square wooden box, this set is an ideal choice for wedding gifts, anniversaries, milestone birthdays, and for enthusiasts of fine glassware and Japanese art.
